Man charged with felony drug offenses following investigation

A 33-year-old Texas resident was taken into police custody Sept. 6 on numerous felony drug charges. According to the report, the man was arrested following an ongoing drug investigation that led to a search warrant being executed by the Nacogdoches County SWAT team.

A tip was made to the sheriff's office claiming that the accused man was selling drugs out of his home. Investigators conducted a sting operation and purchased methamphetamine multiple times from the accused man. The sheriff's office then obtained a search warrant for the man's home on Sept. 1. After he was taken into custody without incident, authorities allegedly found Codeine, Xanax and a small amount of marijuana.

The man was charged with multiple drug crimes, including first-degree felony delivery of a controlled substance and several misdemeanors including a Class A misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and a Class B misdemeanor possession of marijuana. At the time the report was written, no bail amount had been set. The accused man was reportedly still on parole and wearing an ankle monitor at the time he was taken into custody.

Individuals who are accused of drug charges may be sentenced to prison if they are convicted. However, a criminal law attorney may potentially find that the chain of evidence was corrupted, meaning the evidence against the person may not be used in court. The attorney may also argue that the drugs did not belong to the accused person and that the accused had no knowledge that the drugs were present.
