Recent changes to Texas law allow prosecutors to enhance certain misdemeanor domestic violence charges to felonies. If you are convicted of domestic violence and get charged again, it may be enhanced to a felony. If you have two domestic violence offenses, for which you were not convicted, within 12 months, they can be combined to become a felony. In addition, there is a new felony choking assault charge.
